WordPress MU

I keep getting this message when trying to install MU for the first time:

Sorry, the file .htaccess already exists. Please delete it and reload this page.

Except, I keep looking through my FTP files and I don't have a .htaccess anywhere. Any idea what is going on?

I looked through the documentation and couldn't find anything that helped.

You'll not be seeing it because the file name begins with a ".". That means it's treated as hidden, so you'll need to tell your FTP client to show hidden files.
