Maybe the thread a few lines down on the front page of the forum How to Translate might help since it gives a few links on what has to do to translate Wordpress and, in turn, WordPress MultiUser.

Yes drmike, but can i use a *.mo file of WordPress in the WordPress Multi-User?

As I understand it, you have to extract a new pot file out of the WPMU setup and then translate that since there are additional strings that need to be translated.

Are we keeping the mu-specific translations in a separate file? Just cautious in case it becomes harder to incorporate changes from wp.

Hi danimias!! i get to transalate my mu in spanish! i get a po file es_ES.po, and i wanted to translate more strings too. You have to use poedit for it. Edit the po file and then translate what you want. Then, when you save it, put **_**.mo and thats it!! good luck!!

Te lo digo en nuestro idioma. Mira, bájate el poedit de aquí:
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/poedit/poedit-1.3.4-setup.exe?download
    http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=913&replies=2#post-4739
Suerte!!

Perhaps you can share your es.mo file?

Where's the best place to put these so anyone can update them?

Why don't we put the translations as public projects at wpmudev.org ?
I think this will bundle things around WPMU in one place.
    Just my 2 cents

If I upload something to wpmudev.org then no one else can update it. Instead they would have to create a new package.

There's a wiki article on Codex about WPMUDEV: http://codex.wordpress.org/WPMUDEV.org - everyone here is welcome to factor in their thoughts.

Pue eso... my English is very poor..

Gracias.
