BUG REPORT: .net addresses (12 posts)

    I'm not sure if there is a similar bug with WordPress MU with other TLDs, but when I intstalled WordPress MU (not just once--four times), there was a recurring error when the config tables were created. Instead of "http://infinite9.net" it came out "http://net/infinite9/", in the config table. Thankfully I had enough knowledge to search out this bug and fix it for my own install, but I wouldn't even begin to know what causes the error in the install.

    BTW: If anyone else gets this error, open up phpMyAdmin, search for the table "wp_1_options" (where "wp_" is your table prefix) and browse through until you find "site_url", and enter your domain name, MINUS the www. and no trailing slash.

    -Hope that helped,
    Ashley

    It's not the .net extension that does it. My install is at homeschooljournal.net.

    I've installed MU in different circumstances, and if it's in a subfolder or a secondary account, it'll do stuff like that.

    Are you sure you didn't enter http://www.infinite9.net when you did the setup? We've had reports that that is what causes the issue.

    Please note that the URL appears in a number of other tabels as well. wp_site, wp_blogs, etc.

    Hope this helps,
    -drmike

    Yes,I just noticed now that there are other places where I'll have to modify it, but I'm also absolutely CERTAIN that I wouldn't make the same mistake FOUR times. I'm known to be a little slow.. but personally, I don't think I'm quite THAT slow ^^;;

    Thanks for pointing out those tables, those'll be the first I look into when changing the URLs =)

    Hmm... I seem to have manually fixed most of this already, but there's one place where I can't seem to find. If you go to http://www.infinite9.net, and look, the post links are still pointing to http://net/infinite9/, any idea which table this would be found in? I've searched left, right, and center for it, but I just can't seem to find it ^^;;

    I can confirm that this is also a problem for .org addresses. I reinstalled twice - same thing happens, the URL for the server is translated to http://org/domain, where it should be http://domain.org.

    I've seen it happen with .com addresses before, so it's not the addresses that is the issues, it's on setup.
    It coudl be all kinds of things, server settings, your host account type etc...

    You're right. Once I got my dns wildcard set up and reinstalled, things are now working fine. Thanks for the encouragement to figure it out!

    Could you please verify which URL you used to install WPMU though? I asked in my post if you installed it with or without the 'www' bit in the URL. It's been mentioned in the past as the possible cause for the issue.

    Thanks,
    -drmike

    The last time around, I did as recommended, without the www. I think my first try (without the DNS wildcard fix) was also without the www, and it didn't work that time.

    This is still a bug. I've done 3 wordpressmu installations so far, each on different hosting accounts, and I always run into the org/domain or com/domain problem.

    Here is the workaround, until it is fixed - open up your database, and go into the wp_1_options table (assuming wp is your table prefix). In the option_name field, change the siteurl value to your correct domain name (no www or trailing slash). Then you'll need to edit the root blog (Site Admin --> Blogs --> / --> Edit) and change it again in any field you see (I believe they are "Home" and "Upload Path").

    For the record, on all these installations, I've chosen the subdirectory option and did NOT use "www" as a prefix.

    http://trac.mu.wordpress.org/

    Then please submit a bug to trac with as many details as possible, because it does not do this in all cases. (Yes, I've had it happen to me, as well as NOT happen.)
