    hi there,

    I found a bunch of these plugins, does anyone know of one that works with wpmu? I guess if I jsut install and activate one of these, it will not "really" work because each blog has its own wp_blogid_ prefix...

    I am searching for a basic one actually, I have some problems with the subscribe2 plugin thats why I was looking for another subscription/newsletter script..

    do you want to write to all bloggers yourself, or do you want each blogger to be able to run his own newsletter ?

    well atm I am looking for a plugin that allows each blog its own newsletter, but basically I am interested too in a solution for writing myself to all blogs/bloggers.

    right now I need a solution to replace subscribe2 as it sends out the confirmation mails saying: click here to confirm your registration but does not put the link into the email :-(

    actually I need 3 solutions:

    a) subscription plugin, to get new posts mailed, for the whole blog or only for selected categories. this should be available on a per blog basis
    b) a newsletter plugin that each blog owner can run for his blog
    c) a newsletter plugin for the site owner (aka me ;-)

    for c) it looks like I could use one of those plugins from above and somehow hide the menue from all other users, I guess

    for the email all, there's this:

    if you don't have too many users. If too many users, you need some command line phping, or you'll hit dreaded browser timeout from hell.

    Regarding the per blog newsletter, i don't know, but im interested too :-).

    I am stil trying to get the subscribe2 plugin to work with wpmu :-(

    the basic problem still persists: there is no confirmation link in the confirmation email ...

    anyone able to look into this?

    ###edit###
    I found out why the confirmation link was missing due to one email from the developer:

    '>> Ovi,
    >>
    >> The links should be as follows:
    >>
    >> Write -> Mail Subscribers
    >> http://blog/wp-admin/post-new.php?page=subscribe2/subscribe2.php
    >>
    >> Manage -> Subscribers
    >> http://blog/wp-admin/edit.php?page=subscribe2.php
    >>
    >> Users -> Subscriptions
    >> http://blog/wp-admin/users.php?page=subscribe2/subscribe2.php
    >>
    >> Options -> Subscribe
    >> http://blog/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=subscribe2.php
    >>
    >> These menu hooks are all defined in function admin_menu() on line
    >> 104 of
    >> the
    >> code.
    >>
    >> Matt'

    I did not get to see al options of the plugin so I asked him for a link structure (for his answer see the above email excerpt). I tried that linkstructure and noticed, there were some errors with 2 of those links:

    some of the above links look like this: edit.php?page=subscribe2.php the right url is this: edit.php?page=subscribe2/subscribe2.php - notice the missing directory?

    by manually typing the urls like this I reached the option page where I could set the template for the confirmation mail and now the link gets sent out, still we have to figure out why the menue does not work so one can reach these urls from the menue.

    anyone else using this plugin or willing to help?

    p.s. the developer of the plugin has just been blessed wit ha son so I guess he won't be working on his plugin too much in the next time.. btw. I use the latest version for 2.1.1 which should be wpmu compatible as I checked it out from svn....

    OK, so back onto the Subscribe2 trail :)

    I managed a successful 1.1 install of the new release http://subscribe2.wordpress.com/2007/03/28/subscribe2-31-for-wp-21/

    Tweaked some presentation / spacing stuff (such as with the widget: http://subscribe2.wordpress.com/2006/09/12/widget-13/ but otherwise it worked a treat, happy days :)

    However... when trialling it on a larger site everything went pear shaped when it was turned on:

    WordPress database error: [MySQL client ran out of memory]
    ...
    WordPress database error: [Lost connection to MySQL server during query]
    SELECT option_id, autoload FROM wp_19_options WHERE option_name = 'subscribe2_options'

    etc.

    So my thinking is that it's running a function that doesn't sit comfortably with the 'larger' database... anyone have any other ideas? I think this would be a great plugin to have working for wpmu.

    Cheers, James

    try to contact the author, he is very friendly and helpful.

    regarding my problem with subscribe2 => I gave him admin right on the demo blog and on the blog where I had problems and we found out the problems only persisted on one single blog, although we activated exactly the same plugins on the demo blog, everything worked smoothly there...

    and btw. he has also a trunk version, which you can check out which should be more wpmu compatible...

    Not to disturb his newly familied bliss :) I've been playing with some other plugins and it looks like I've got another site that's just got too damn big.

    Basically this - and other plugins that create sets of tables when they install - just spend too darn long looking through one big database to do their thang - so they timeout and everything goes to crap.

    Exactly the same problem I ran into a while back in terms of creating new blogs.

    So current solution is "get a professional to fix it" :)

    Notable is that having a split database doesn't do any good - edublogs.org just gives me:

    Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in ...wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 203

    So I'm guessing that this is the same issue as wp-signup with big databases - they both try to do things in a certain way (that other sql scripts don't) - interesting stuff!

    Cheers, James
