Problems with url rewriting in htaccess (10 posts)

    Hi!

I hope someone can help us with the rewrite rules of the .htaccess of wordpress mu. The installation keeps failing. We want to install it on:

    adomain.nl/blogs

Unfortunately, when we try to access the page, the url gets rewritten to http://nl/blogs/adomain/ in all the files, making the template unavailable and most of the features unusable.

However, our domain is stored on a virtual server, e.g.

    www16.anotherdomain.nl is directed to http://www.adomain.nl

When we install the software to www16.anotherdomain.nl (and not to adomain.nl), it does work. Unfortunately, this looks pretty awful, since that domainname has nothing to do with the site.

Has anybody any clues how to solve this? Setting the flag of virtual host does not work. :(

Thank you very much in advance!

Can you install it to adomain.nl instead of adomain.nl/blogs/?

Unfortunately we can't, we have a site much bigger than just blogs (the root is the frontsite of the whole website). Also, we cannot create any subdomains like blogs.adomain.nl.

Is there a way to deactive the whole rewriting part before blogs, so it only rewrites the part after blogs?

Well, given your setup, it's either not going to work that way or you'll need to hire an expert.

Floris78, I've just installed MU for the first time and am having exactly the same problem. I installed it to adomain.org/blogs/ and it keeps trying to contact http://org/blogs/adomain, or just http://org/, which results in http://www.org.com coming up on my screen. Would love if someone could help with a workaround here.

This user apparently had the same problem as well:

I have the same problem too. I tried to mess around with the database values and .htaccess but found no success. I have Joomla running as my main component so I have to put WP Mu as a subfolder of the domain, like domain.net/blogs/.

I tried to reinstall probably 10+ times, but same thing keeps happening.

But I did get it working under a subdomain of my domain. So the links appear to be subdomain.domain.net/blogs/blogname/. But the links look ugly like that so that's why I want to change it.

I think WP MU hates the "www"

yes, it does hate the www. In the instructions it says not to put that in anywhere. I know on install if you put the www in the address, it will screw up the URL. It is also built to strip the www.

But I don't think it should hate being at a subdirectory of a main site. But I have no deep knowledge on such subject.

This is a really annoying problem that's driving me away to lifetype, which I tested and installed correctly under /blogs/.

With wpmu you should try to do it their (development team's) way or you'll have a hard time. I've have never tried with a subdirectory install.
