This would almost certainly need tweaking, but could be a start for someone, so they don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks Andrea for the generous sharing of knowledge.
I was aware of the plug-in. It only works for the regular WP, not MU edition. So I agree with you some tweaking will be needed. So far nobody has expressed the interest in the task though.
