Wordpress.org mentions here, http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Structure_Tags , that using only %postname% may cause errors. Is this still true? Will someone give me an example other than if a post is called "wp admin"? Would the structure of /%postname%-%post_id%/ work?

    %postname%-%post_id%, yes.

But just %postname% isn't recommended for various reasons. Mainly because a page and a post could have the same slug, and then collide. Posts and pages can't have the same slug, but last I tried it, a page and a post could.

To be honest, if it's an attempt at SEO, it doesn't hold as much weight as it used to.

    %category%/%postname%/ would be fine.

If it's for aesthetic reasons, one more section won't really hurt.
