After installation, all links off of the main admin page as well as newly created blogs result in 404s.

I downloaded and installed 1.2.1 to apache root with rewrite defined and working for other virtualhosts. Domain is blogs.domain.edu, I installed with Subdirectory option so that created blogs become:
    http://blogs.domain.edu/blog1
    http://blogs.domain.edu/blog2

The .htaccess file is created and looks good (as compared to trunk and other examples on the forum). I checked the db entries for reverse URL error but all looks good there as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Actually seeing this may help. Looking good to you may be mean it is good and we may see somehting that you don't.

Thx drmike, intranet server during beta so no access from outside...

Resolved my problem by copying entire .htaccess file contents into httpd.conf.
