WordPress MU

I just had some problems posting on the wp forums, my post does just not appear, without giving me any errors. so maybe someone here can give me some hints:

My problem is that I have not yet activated the widgets.php plugin but still can use widgets? I activate them, drag them around, and see the changes live on my site.

So somewhere the widgets must be activated. I looked into my themes functions.php file but its not activated there, where else could I look?

I really want to turn widgets off because I want to use sidebar modules, but until I deactivate somehow these widgets I can't activate sbm.

please give me some hints.

Actually the widget code is in the core now on both platforms.

See what's in the theme's sidebar.php file. Probably can remove the if and closing lines from that so it never calls the function.

Rather strange as it's not in teh function.php file though.
