Plugin that allows pseudo per-blog registrations (10 posts)

I put together a plugin for Creative Commons (http://creativecommons.org) that allows for registration with sub-blogs. I noticed that there are quite a few posts about trying to get per-blog registrations working, so I thought I'd post the plugin here in the hope that it might be useful to someone else. There might be bugs in it, but it seems to be working as expected here. The file has quite a few inline comments.

This looked like the exact tool I needed. Unfortunately the link above does not work. Can anyone update me on the status of this topic/problem.

    Thanks

We had done some reorganizing of our Subversion repository, and now it's actually on a different host altogether. Sorry about the broken link. Here is the new one:

This is great! However, there is one problem that is going to confuse users and require admin intervention. If user Bob registers for blog A, and then wants to also register for blog B, he will not be allowed to.

I've been looking through the code and I don't see an easy way to fix it.

Do you have any ideas? I'd be happy to contribute to the code.

I made some big updates to the plugin ... really, I removed most of the code. A good part of the plugin was trying to fix some things I saw wrong with how WPMU was working that now seem to work fine. In any case, see this blog post:

    http://labs.creativecommons.org/2008/07/01/per-blog-registrations-for-wordpress-mu/

I'm not sure how to get around the issue that fulvio mentions in the previous post. The only thing that comes to mind is to add some text to the registration form letting the user know that if they already have an account with that install of WPMU then to just use that, though the user may not have any idea they already have an account (especially with subdomains).

I guess the plugin could also be smart enough to catch the submitted name and email, check to see if one of them already exits, and if so then give the user a useful message about how they've already got an account and with what blog.

Any questions or suggestions, please write me at nkinkade@creativecommons.org.

Any results from your test andrea_r?
And are there special instructions for installing the plugin?

Just drop the plugin to mu-plgins and it works.
Anyone has any idea on how to fix Fulvio's issue?

This still isn't working for me... going to the 'Register' link from a sub blog (http://domain.co.uk/blog/wp-login.php?action=register OR /blog/wp-signup.php) just redirects me straight to http://domain.co.uk/wp-signup.php.

I've placed the file in wp-content/mu-plugins - am I right in thinking that's all there is to do? Has the plugin been updated, or is there any chance of this feature being included in WPMU in the future?

This thread is six MONTHS old. A lot has changed, and quite possibly the plugin too.

Check out the site admin options page.
