does wordpress announce mailing list include MU releases?

No announcement mailing list that I know off. Mu gets discussed on the hacker list though. Usually the same issues that exist for wp also exists with wpmu.

I see WP 2.2.2 (security release) was recently released. When will be MU updated? Are there any single patches for MU which can be applied?

Is it safe to install just files from http://trac.mu.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/
which are marked "Sync for WP 2.2.2" ?

Yes, but I'm hoping to get a new release out today with a few more fixes.
