rss widget mod? (feeling stupid) (3 posts)

Hey all... this is probably super easy for folks like you... but...

I wanted to modify the RSS widget to allow me to have "0" items in the "items to display" box. i just want folks to be able to position the rss subscribe button anywhere on their sidebar that they'd like -- without having to list the recent posts. Since that is duplicated with the "recent posts" widget.

Any simple solutions? I was digging around widgets.php, but I'm still super new to php... am going to experiment while I wait for your mercy. :)

The file wp-admin/widgets.php is the one that builds the widgets page in the backend. You'll find what you need in /wp-includes.widgets.php, down 900 lines or so.

And doesn't the item number just show that may entries in the feed itself, not in the sidebar?

Actually, the number box on the widgets page is for how many widgets you want available. Like 3 feed widgets, 5 text widgets, etc.

If you want a RSS button/link, just make a new widget.
