We are working on getting some spam plugin/filters in place on our blog site but I wonder if anyone can help me to understand the difference between making a blog inactive, marked as spam or deleting completely. Are there pros/cons to each of them?

Marked as spam saves all of the uploads as well as content. Visitors and those trying to log into the blog get the "Marked as spam" error message.
Delete means delete.
If you're thinking about deleting spammers, I'd hold off at first. Folks may appeal, ask for a second chance, and/or you may be mistaken.
