I'm doing a fresh install of wordpress-mu-1.5.1 to Ubuntu 8.04 pre-installed with LAMP functionality. I'm not installing Ubuntu's wordpress package, I downloaded the tar.gz file from wordpress.com and installed it to /var/www.
The entire install process works great until it presents me with the initial admin password. When I try to log in with 'admin' and the pre-generated password, it immediately just drops me back to the login.php page. No "bad password" error, no errors in the apache logs, just... no login.
How can I find out what isn't working? Here are the access.log lines from an attempted initial login:
X.X.X.X - - [27/May/2008:13:57:53 -0700] "POST /blogs/wp-login.php HTTP/1.1" 302 - "http://xxxxxxxx/blogs/wp-login.php"
X.X.X.X - - [27/May/2008:13:57:53 -0700] "GET /blogs/wp-admin/ HTTP/1.1" 302 - "http://xxxxxxxx/blogs/wp-login.php"
X.X.X.X - - [27/May/2008:13:57:53 -0700] "GET /blogs/wp-login.php?redirect_to=%2Fblogs%2Fwp-admin%2F HTTP/1.1" 200 1949 "http://xxxxxxxx/blogs/wp-login.php"
Interestingly, if I use a password besides the auto-generated one, it *does* give me a bad username/password error on the login page. If I use the "correct" one, it just gives me no error and no login.
