what the world is this g.gif that i keep seeing all over my site? that is where the image points too.

I'm guessing it is because i have the wordpress stats plugin running. why does it display a random smiley face on my site?

It's probably whats used for tracking. Javascript is used primarily, then what if the visitor has javascript disabled? An image is usually used as a backup.
And that smiley is pretty much a wordpress "thing". You'll find it on all their sites.

Sure, remove the plugin. Do a search also on teh wp.com forums for 'smiley' as it's been covered many times. I even think it's listed in their faq.
