Need instructions for upgrade from 1.5.1 to WPMu 2.6. (9 posts)

When I look for instructions to upfgrade in the README file, I am sent here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WPMU
Which tells me that instructions are needed:

It does point me to two URLs:

    1. http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=8885
    2. http://ocaoimh.ie/2008/07/09/wordpress-mu-26-beta-1/

None of which give me any instructions.

Is there any advice out there?

    Backup, backup, backup.

Just like regular WP, save wp-content, .htaccess and wp-config.php. Delete everything else. Install new files. Hit the admin, go the upgrade tab.

Need I repeat, BACKUP. Database and all files. Use mysqldump or phpMyAdmin to dump the whole database. Backup every single file on the server. Then, if you hit any issues, you can go back.

Try restoring the backup to another machine if you can, just to be doubly sure.

Good question. Would you like to submit a patch? You can do so here. You can log in with the same username / password as for this forum.

Um, he'd have to sign in to the codex to update that info, not trac. :)

edit: nevermind, I updated it myself.

I was suggesting he might want to edit that. :)

Well, I'm running 2.6 now. With 2.7 maybe a month away, would it be worthwhile to upgrade to the most recent version of Mu first?

And if so, any advice for doing so?

@billdennis5: I'd recommend upgrading as often as possible. The more frequently you upgrade, the less pain on each upgrade! Plus, security fixes are only released for the latest code, Automattic provides almost no backwards fixes and little security patch notification. If you want to be secure, you need to keep with the latest version.
