login on one domain, blogs on another domain? (3 posts)

I manage a gentoo hardened server, with vhost'ed subdomains (www.mysite.it and intranet.mysite.it). It currently runs static pages mixed with php pages.

I wanted people to be able to edit the content of their own subdirs (e.g. every department has its own subdir) on their own, without having to send me the modified files or without having to use a ssh chrooted account for uploading the changes.

I thought that maybe wordpress mu might be a good solution.

I tried searching for something that would allow me to have the login/dashboard pages on intranet.mysite.it while their individual blogsites are instead displayed as subdirs of http://www.mysite.it, with the login links disabled, of course! :)

But I suppose that my idea is too far-fetched. So I'm just asking you: it might be doable?

Thanks for all your useful replies. :)

P.S.: Please, don't click on the link! It ain't a real website :D

Probably not as it sounds more like you want them to have file level access. mu is centered more around content access with the site admin providing the "wrappers" to provide that content.

You may want to go over to wordpress.com, create an account, see what you can do as an enduser and see if that would work for you.

There is a plugin to allow WPmu to work across different domains. That might work.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/

Ditto file level editing via other uploading and editing plugins.

There is a choice of many.
