I want to use wpmu for two sites/business ideas that I have.
I want to use edublogs.org as the standard bearer for my sites in terms of appearance and the number of blogs hosted there.
Does anyone know or can anyone make an educated guess as to the hosting arrangements for edublogs?
For example is the site using multiple dedicated servers?
Considering the amount of users they have, that'd be a safe assumption.
Last count 14 of them I believe.
edit: I was hoping that Andrea would get Luke or Andrew to write up a quick review of their hardware for her tutorial site. It's on my todo list to bug her about that.
Have to remember to do that some day.

I'll add my tip into a bucket :)
We have a dedicated server with WPMU installed. Quad-core CPU, 4Gb RAM, 2x500Gb SATA HDDs.
WPMU has ~7000 blogs, the system runs just great :)
It's complicated... and we're forever tweaking it around... but at the moment we run 2 (huge) db servers, 3 web nodes, a share of some serious irons for balancing and a rather large SANS.

Farms, can you share some specifics? What load balancing hardware/software are you using?
One of the Automattic folks did an article way back when on what they use for load balancing and what not. Anyone remember it?
May help that guy with the 700k blogs planned as well.

If anyone can remember - post the URL here please :)
I was thinking it was Andy but it was Barry:

http://barry.wordpress.com/2008/04/28/load-balancer-update/
There's another post somewhere as well.
edit: Make sure you read the comments as well.
Here's the other post:

Most of what Barry writes about on that site is worth a read.
