I run a WPMU site (wont mention its name becuase ive found that by mentioning your blogs url or having it linked from your usernameyou get spam blogged (purely correlational added my url had 40 spam signups within a day, took it off got 1 or 2 a week))

My wpmu has 650 bloggers just under 700 users and the database is around 600mb single DB (yer i know its a bad idea im wokring on hyper db or dev's multi DB once i figure out how to work it) I currently run on shared hosting (i know there a brilliant host to have me still running)

Now i need to move to a vps or even dedicated, im not made of gold and i dont show ads or anything like that on peoples blogs i just allow them to make blogs. main source of income is probably the rev share but thats like $14 in the past 2 months.

Dont want to be going above $30 a month really (so dedicated is not really probable) so any suggestions would be great. I need to find somewhere quickly becuase advertising will start soon and im looking at around (estimation) 2000 signups (its via news papers, university's, colleges etc in england)

And if there are any experianced wpmu site movers out there i will be happy to employ you XD.

What is your level of expertise with Linux or server admin? As this will determine whether you go with managed or self-managed (cheaper) VPS / servers.

    Check this UK based company:

    http://cheapvps.co.uk/specials

It's a new hosting service so I'm not sure about the quality of their customer service, but the VPS seems to be very fast. However, for thousands of signups you may need a dedicated server.

I use futurehosting.biz. I have a site with about that many bloggers, but it all depends on how *busy* your site is.

I've seen MU sites with a handful of blogs that needed dedicated, purely because of the traffic. I've also seen an install with over a thousand but little activity, and it hardly used any resources.

That being said, my users crank out 50-100 posts a day, a million server hits a month and I use a package with 768megs of RAM. Plus I have other sites on the same VPS. Costs me $62 / month to run everything.

I have about 320 uniques a day, over 1000 page views a day across all blogs so not massive its just the size of my database and sql quieries im worried about.

I would say they probably post 3 times a week on avarage.

Cheapvps looks....cheap lol not a fan, webintellects actually becomes $40 a month with c pannel (which i prefer) so not a fan there lol.

Futurehosting is now top on my list
I'll get my good business friend to surf the net and if i find anything better ill throw you an update :)
    Thanks

Forgot to mention my main install is on 16 dbs as well. I bet you'd be just fine with 512meg s of ram.
