WordPress MU

I know that I am suppose to search the forums before asking this question. And believe me i've done that many many many number of times but still din got the correct solution. Please help me to get this work... please....
Problem Statement : I have installed wpmu on linux server. Now, I want to run wpmu on https. I've got SSL certificate installed on some other server that internally points to the linux machine where wpmu is setup... I tried the following approachs....
1) replace hardcoded http throughout the code files with https
2) replace http:// with https:// in wp_#_options table.
but nothing works...
There is lot of info regarding this(ssl,https) in these forums, but none is clear...
If any one has done something simillar, or can help me, please reply... Please let me know in case any other details are required. Thanks in advance.

Are you using CPanel?

There is a plugin that does this and works with WPMU called Admin SSL.
