The funny thing is that this vacation is making me a nervous wreck just thinking about it. Apparantly there is *very* limited internet connectivity on board the ship and well, i'm about two seconds from panicking. :(

I vote for number 2, if you're still following this andrew, and if your schedule permits it :)

#3! PMs would turn MU towards a much cooler community-kinda thang.

I'm not really following this thread at the moment. This is mostly due to the fact that Automattic is growing very fast and i'm afraid that WPMU will become more like TypePad or MT.

However, I am looking for a new project and if you guys can come up with a cool idea then I'd be willing to code it.

    The criteria:

    1) Must be community oriented.

    2) Must have mass appeal. Basically something that 75%+ of the user base would find interesting and use.

    3) Must somehow unite various WPMU sites into a global user community.

I have no problem giving whoever credit for the idea. If you would like to contact me directly please email me andrew AT idtstudios.com

andrew, a wpmu-avatars project is under works and that is in nexia's very capable hands at the moment.

Aside from lending a helping hand to that, I'd also think that a PM'ng system that could send messages to other wpmu sites would accomplish your goals, as would a universal flickr/style gallery site with plugins for wpmu users.

So in order of appeal that would be:

    • WPMU-Avatars
    • WPMU-Gallery
    • WPMU-Messaging

"3) Must somehow unite various WPMU sites into a global user community."

What about an agregation site? The latest news from across the WPMU network of blogs? Aggregate the feeds of the main or news blog from each wpmu-powered site signed up.

Side note: same fears here. Sigh.

I have developped a wpmu photo gallery.

It is still alpha but you can see it working in the links bellow

      http://vetso.free.fr/wp/?p=gallery

I am a bit busy but if it gets interest then I'll improve and release it.

      drop me mail at hery_at_serasera_dot_org

      Thanks

The people at http://journalblue.com have some sort of messaging system, but you have to login to see it, I think there's a demo account somewhere.

It'd be fairly easy to code, especially the way they did it.

Ok, give a try to the WP Gallery plugin as I said yesterday
