WordPress MU

Aloha

I have MU up and running, adding last posts, most active, Flickr, contact form and additional users (users.php mod)

I can add new users manually via admin going to Users > Author & Users.

My Problem is - under "Add New Users" there is a line that says
Users can register themselves or you can manually create users here.
but when I click and go to domain/wp-register.php I get the following error

Registration Disabled

User registration is currently not allowed.

Anyone know where to activate user registration in WPMU?

Maybe you have the invite system turned on? Mainsite Dashboard -> Site Admin -> Invites -> Uncheck "Registration - check for invite" and click on "Submit Query."

It might help, but when registration is turned on, it usually just redirects and doesn't give an error.

Invite on or off gives same result. my guess is something in wp-register.php has it disabled but not sure how to enable it

I'm also gonna guess and say it might have something to do with the user.php mod.

the user.php gives additional sign up function within admin to add additonal users to the same blog (which is what I want). there is a link that sends it to wp-register and that is where I get the page (wp-register) that says
Registration Disabled

Anyone have any ideas - would really like to have this set up so that I can multiple users on one blog and they can sign up by themselves instead of giving me the info and having me input as admin. thanks
