Just installed the latest version, installed all fine but when I tested the signup process I got the email but the activation code was invalid?
Also, although the domain was accepted it did not show up in the main control panel - or would this not show until the activation code had been sent?

The activation link is fixed, just visit wp-activate.php and put in the key from the end of the URL.
in 2006.5.29 and 2006.5.30 the activation email is broken. no emails and the emails usually get set in the database as an md5 password.
I'm running the 2006.05.15 build and I have no problems with the activation emails. I don't think I made any core changes either. I know that doesn't help your cause, but perhaps you can provide some more info about your setup and we can troubleshoot.
btw - the builds haven't changed since the 2006.05.15 release.
