Can someone please confirm this problem, but DONT do it on a live DB, or at least not on a live user.

Go into wp_signups and find an account.

Try to register for a user name using that email address and you should get the message "Sorry, that email address is already used!"

Go back and look at wp_signups.

    Has that user now vanished?

I am not sure what you mean by "go into wp_signups", but if I try to register with an email address that is already in the system, I get the message you mention. The user is still there. I even tried registering as the same username and email, and get error messages that they already exist, but the user does not vanish.

Perhaps one of your plugins is doing something weird.

I'm not sure, either what you mean by going to wp-signups (other than to sign up - not to find a user). But I'm not seeing any funky behavior with sign up, either.

I do andrea_r and I sort of assumed that people might understand that but I guess not and I had other things on my mind at the time like would the fridge I'd bought go through the door on the boat and if it would be too much for the battery pack!

That's kind of what I assumed, but not having a table named "wp_signups" I wasn't 100% sure, which is what I like to be when offering help. I checked this again and still have no problem with a user disappearing, so I would have to assume it's a plugin causing the problem. What plugins do you have installed?

I have no plugs that touch the signups table (which is wp_signups in my schema) apart from montyspam.

Oddly enough I have not been able to reproduce the problem which is a bit of a worry.

Ok, I get it. Hadn't noticed the "wp_signups" table before, but the two installations I work with have no entries in that table. Likely because we don't use the MU registration as all users are validated with LDAP.

Perhaps there was a bug that was fixed in a recent release - have you updated the software since you encountered the problem?
