Choosing domain configuration for SEO (2 posts)

    My first foray into WPMU is going amazingly smoothly but I am now in need of some feedback from SEO gurus amongst you.

    In addition to providing value for our customers (ie the blog space), we are looking at aspects that might effect the SEO value as well. Currently WPMU is setup for testing as a subdomain: wpmu.mydomain.com. The hope is gain some benefit in search rankings for the main domain (mydomain.com in the examples) through links in the blogs. WPMU could be set up on its own domain or left as a subdomain. But which configuration would be the best in terms of SEO for main domain:

    * wpmu.mydomain.com/someonesblog
    * http://www.wpmu.com/someonesblog
    * someonesblog.wpmu.com

    My initial guess is that the last one would present the most value as the search engines might view each blog url as a standalone website more than the other two. But that is only a guess, as I am not that well versed in the fine art of SEO.

    Thanks
    Tom

    Pick someonesblog.wpmu.com.

    It *is* seen as a separate site. And of course if you have your main site linked in the footer now you have all these sites linking to you. ;)
