    I hope someone can help on this one.

    I'm getting a real funky broken link error after reinstalling several times.
    I've read everywhere. Nothing.

    Anyway when I go to my main blog, works fine. When I click on login, works great. But when I click on "Create a new blog" My url go's from...

    http://www.mydomain.com/blogs to...
    http://www.mydomain.com/blogswp-signup.php/

    Just how it looks!

    Of cource I get a "Oops! This link appears broken." in Google.

    I can't for the life of me figure this out. My wife is going to kill me for spending all this time on it :)

    did you install into the subdirectory called blogs?

    @rdmedley : and what is your RewriteBase set to in your .htaccess?

    @webzworks : I'd check your apache server config too, and how long after enabling the DNS wildcard did you try it as it can take quite sometime for DNS records to propogate, and if you're accessing it from inside the same network (like an intranet) then of course the DNS might have to be manually changed there too.

    Ovidiu,

    When you say did I install in to the sub directory called blogs. Do you mean did I ftp all my files there before I ran the install.

    If so yes.

    SteveAtty,

    I have this running on a 2003 IIS server. I have everything installed and I am using a httpd.ini rather than a .htaccess

    I am working on this on my own network. I have DNS point to my static IP from GoDaddy.com.

    Back again,

    I think I have a lead.
    Here is my network:
    Domain Name @ GoDaddy.com
    DNS A Record--->Static IP
    Static IP in--->DSL Quest M1000 Modem--->
    Modem forwarding ports to Linksys Router--->
    Linksys Router forwarding ports to server. <---Period

    BTW...I reinstalled Wordpress to my root directory rather than a subdirectory. Seems propper.

    My server has a internal IP address of 192.168.1.102
    From outside of my network the world can see my server.
    From inside of my network I have to look at my server via IP address. If I go to my domain name my local request does not go out of my network to resolve DNS and come back.

    For this reason I have set up Wordpress using my local server IP.

    From what I can tell the PHP code is expecting a domain extesion automatically placing a '/' at the end of a link request. Now since I am using a internal IP it seems to leave out the '/' causing some of my links to combine the filename to the end of my local IP address.

    IE: http://192.168.1.102wp-signup.php/

    Notice the '/' at the end of the file name rather than after the IP address.

    I think this blog app will be perfect for what I want to do and I have checked out several.

    What I am afraid of since I am not fluent with PHP is breaking it even more. I was hoping someone may have had this type of senerio and may have a fix.

    I believe it would only be a fix on the wp-signup.php file.

    Anyway, I'm just going to keep plugging away at this. I'm very excited to git'r done :)

    Update:

    For anyone that may have read my above posts.
    My problem above with using my domain name in the setup has been resolved. I'm a dork.

    If someone has a simular sinario you can one of two things.

    1. get at least three static IP address.
    One for modem
    One for router
    One for server

    or...as I did. The cheap way and works great!

    On each machine edit your local host file and map your internal ip to your domain.

    On Windows systems the location of this file varies.
    •Windows 9x - (x):\Windows\Hosts
    •Windows XP - (x):\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\Hosts
    •Windows 2000 - (x):\WinNT\System32\Drivers\etc\Hosts

    Regardless of the system, the format of this file should be essentially the same.

    192.168.0.1 router.example.com
    192.168.0.2 http://www.example.com
    192.168.0.3 foo.example.com

    Ok, well that took care of my reverse lookup problen on my internal network.

    But....I still have the freaking url issue! :(

    I did comment out these lines in the wp-signup.php file and it fixed part of it.

    /* if( $current_blog->domain . $current_blog->path != $current_site->domain . $current_site->path ) {
    wp_redirect( "http://" . $current_site->domain . $current_site->path . "wp-signup.php" );
    die();
    } */

    Anyway thanks for the replys earlier guys! :)
