WordPress MU

So, after a lot of trial and ERROR, I got WOMU up and running in the my Xserve running Leopard in my classroom. I am not a programmer or IT guy, but as the teacher in a high school iMac lab it is up to me to figure things out. So, for my class, other classes in my department, and the school newspaper on-line I setup WordpressMU.

All is working fine, but every time I make a new user it says it is sending the password and login info to the person. However, it never shows up. After some research, it seems I need a mail server setup on the server. Is this correct? I have no clue on how to do that or if the district would even allow it. Is there a way to make Wordpress send the login info from my school e-mail account?

Does the server have external internet access? If so you may be able to set the system up to login to an external smtp account and send the email via that.

You could just install postfix and set the relayhost to your ISPs mail server. You might need to tighten things down a little bit put postfix is pretty paranoid out of the box.

Postfix? As in Postfix Enabler? It looks easy.

Postfix as in postfix the email server. Its very easy to set up

Is postfix different from the built in mail server? In older versions of OS X server, I saw a site that said it was preinstalled (10.3).

I have no idea what OS X server has built in.
