Just wondering what options people know about for a mass email or newsletter plugin out there for over 20,000 users on a WPMU platform.

I had already inquired in that thread. It looks the options there wont work except for the mail chimp which will cost $150 per month.
Looking for something that may be out there to do it that might not require such a high monthly fee.

Agreed - although In both my experience and opinion (and no-ones paying me to say it) I reckon they are well worth it - doing good email campaign management is hard!
Anyone care to recommend any cheaper 3rd party providers? We'd be happy to look into doing some API integration for them too.

have you tried http://www.mailpress.org/ ? just wondering why no-one mentioned that so far...
btw. I haven't tried it with wpmu, but its extremely flexible, has laods of internal plugins, i.e. switch from phpmail to smtp or sendmail, send in batches, etc.
