Spam registrations resume after 2.7.1 upgrade (9 posts)

I know 'post hoc, ergo propter hoc' is supposed to be sloppy thinking, but I installed the wp-recaptcha a year or more ago and don't think I've seen a spam registration since. I upgraded to 2.7.1 last week and have now had 3 in 24 hours.

Mine is a Hungarian language site. If I could just require an answer to a simple question in Hungarian and have registration depend on giving a correct answer, I could eliminate 99.9% of spam registrations without eliminating any legitimate registrants. Does anyone know of such a plug-in or hack?

    Thanks,

    Michael

Signup security question does exactly that:

given that I heard Hungarian is supposed to be the second hardest language to learn, yes, that might stop them :-)

Thanks everyone. Signup Security Question looks like just what I need. Unfortunately, it throws the layout of the signup page all out of whack. Some of the wp-captcha styles did that, but one didn't; maybe I can figure out why and tweak it a bit.

In the mean time, its now 4 in 24 hours.

Ovidiu, I'm not a native speaker and I've been working on it 20 years. I flatter myself that I'm up to the level of a not too bright 12 year old.

Okay. With help from you folks I've managed to solve my problem.

I don't know if its just an incompatibility my home theme - I've modified Newsportal - with or WordPress (MU), but there are <tr></tr>, <th></th> and <td></td> tags in the code for the Security Question Field in the Signup Question plug-in and removing these solves the problem I ran into with the plug-in causing the order of the registration page elements to get shuffled around.

    Thanks to all,

    Michael
