The MU forums have moved to WordPress.org

Sub-blogs taking data from main blogs (5 posts)

    Hi all,

I recently moved by Wordpress to Wordpress MU. I have now decided to expand my blog by creating a small number of sub-blogs.

I can create the blogs through the 'Site admin' -> Blogs section.

But when I try and go to that blog it simply does a search on my main blog and takes me to a post on my main blog.

Furthermore, when I go to the back-end of the newly created blog, the dashboard and 'edit posts' pages indicate that the newly created blog is actually reading posts and comments from the main blog rather than from the newly created tables for that blog.

Surely its not merely a server problem if its reading posts from the main blog tables?

Since I manually ported over Wordpress to Wordpress MU, perhaps I've hardcoded something that means sub-blogs only read content from blog id 1. Could that be the case?

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Can post my .htaccess file here but from reading earlier posts here it looks standard. I'm running MU on a virtual host.

Is it subdomain blog or subfolders?

yep, could be any kind of human error.

Hi andrea, thanks for the reply.

It is sub-folders rather than sub-domains. I've gone through the database and that doesn't seem to have anything out of the ordinary, so I'm still not sure why the sub-folder blogs are pulling info from the main blog...

Well, I fixed it - but it seems to me that two changes had to be made (dunno if they were related).

My domain hosting company enabled wildcards for the domain.

and I had to get rid of the 'www' from the wp_blogs table for the sub blog.

    Bizarre

"www." locks you to the domain so it pulls from the main blog.

you probably had to add the folders under the main domain.
