I went into my phpmyadmin and changed the admin's username, but when I logged into my site, I wasn't able to see the Site Admin section, or BuddyPress sections. So, I changed it back and now it works.

Go to your Site Admin > Options and on there is a place where you define which accounts will be granted the site-admin role.
Changing the account name broke this association.
Yes correct you can update Admin users from the site Admin section.
Tip: make a second account a Site Admin. Give yourself another username, then add it to the list under Stie Admin -> Option: site admins.
I got it. Thanks!
You may want to consider downgrading the admin account afterwards. We see a lot of hacking attempts and password guessing to gain access to the admin account.
