Can some one please help! I have tried 4 times now to setup WPMU. Each time unsuccessful with the error below. After each failure I wipe my database, remove the files and start all over again. I don't know how much more I can take!
In order to get to the index setup page I needed to delete the htaccess folder but then when I try to proceed with the setup in order to get to the admin/password page I receive this error...
ERROR: htaccess.dist not found
htaccess.dist
FILE NOT FOUND: htaccess.dist
.htaccess
FILE NOT FOUND: .htaccess
Anyone have any ideas? help?
I am using 1&1 as my host.

What is the error that had you delete the htaccess folder? That's where we need to start, as the WPMU installer requires you to have the htaccess.dist file available when installing.
.htaccess and htaccess.dist are tow different files.
If you;re on cpanel and it keeps putting on there, yes, that one needs to be deleted. you have to keep the htaccess.dist though.
ok. I'll retry it with out deleting but I was getting a 500 error if I didn't delete it. I am using 1&1 host.

If you search the forums, a LOT of people have had trouble getting MU running on that particular host.
any suggestions at to what the problem may be? is it some sort of access i need to ask them for?
