hello world 404 but not due to mod_rewrite (7 posts)

On a fresh install of wpmu 2.8.6 (and 2.8.4a as well), the hello-world blog post results in a 404, but not from my web server (apache). I get back all the pretty html etc. but instead of displaying the contents of the blog post, I see in its place a "Error 404 - Not Found" text in bold letters. Everything else on the page looks great!

    Any ideas?

Interestingly enough, if I remove the /blog path from the URL, I get the blog! I'm using a sub-dir wpmu install.

    displays 404: /blog/2009/11/27/hello-world/
    works!: /2009/11/27/hello-world/

Just tried it w/ a sub-domain install and everything works great. With the sub-domain install, the hello-world blog's URL doesn't use the /blog path.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here. Thanks in advance for the posts.

Changing the permalink structure under Settings->Permalinks menu from "Custom Structure" to "Day and Name" structure fixed the 404 issue. Seems like a bug w/ the default sub-dir install and the /blogs permalink structure.

Anyone know what's going on here? :)

Wow. You actually dont have to change the permalink structure at all. All you have to do is CLICK into the Permalink Settings view and voila. No more 404s. Crazy.

I should probably learn how to use trac and file a bug :)

This fixed it for me as well. It happened with a fresh, out-of-the-box blog.
