I want to start a blogging service for amateur astronomers...I want not only a blog, but to give them the ability to upload their photos into a photo album unique to their blog (can't get their photos in a community photo gallery--they are only accessible through their blogs) Is this possible, or has it been done?
Cool idea man. What about some of the flickr plugins?
Install Gallery and manually add in their accounts? Assign them each a seperate one.
I think there are Gallery plugins for WordPress but I've never tried them.

I thought I saw something about wpg2 and wpmu the other day but google won't help me out this time... anyone know where??
The only issue though with that is you can't govern how much space to allocate. At least i don't think you can. I don'r remember that feature on Gallery.
haha.. found it... a bit of hacking required...

Regarding quotas... there's a module that enables you to set quotas... just pick it out in the install!!!
Good luck and let us know how you fair!!

did you find a way to get it working?
it seems like the development of a mu port of the wpg2 plugin will not happen:

if you link wpmu to gallery, what happens to the upload form and the usual way of inserting images in post ? Is it replaced with a new one ? what about the pictures that were already previously uploaded by suers ? Any way to ahve them show up in gallery ?
