How can I have MU only show say 5 posts per page, without each user having to install a plugin?

Posted 15 years ago #The setting is built in to wordpress. Just go to the blog's Settings > Reading admin page and change the "Blog pages show at most" to 5.
If you want to change the default for all new blogs, you can use http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-new-blog-defaults/ which is a site-admin MU plugin rather than a user plugin.
