Domain Mapping Install Question About Install Instructions (3 posts)

I just installed the Domain Mapping plugin by Donncha. I installed it by looking it up in the plugins directory and auto-installing it through the Wordpress MU admin area. I haven't set anything up with it yet, but it appears to be working (or atleast installed and activated).

My question came after I reviewed the installation instructions at...

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/installation/

...on this page there are a series of steps. I followed them and it appeared to break my site. So, I reverted back to before I followed the above instructions.

My question is that if you use the auto-installer via the Wordpress Plugins area, do you need to also follow the instructions on the plugin page or does the auto-installer handle everything that's necessary? The Sunrise file, etc. were not copied over...so I am questioning whether or not I have this installed properly.

    Thanks!

    Hi rbickett,

The answer is no, you do not have it installed properly. You have to follow the installation instructions to have it install properly especially for the sunrise and config file part.

Why it break your site after following the install instructions? My guess is because you did not uninstall the auto-installed copy of the plugin. So it becomes 2 copies of domain mapping running at the same time which naturally would break your site. Try uninstall domain mapping from your plugin page first and re-install following the instructions.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers.

Thanks hotohori. I will uninstall what I've done and reinstall it manually.
