HI i'm new to wordpress multliuser and am trying to install my first site.

I've done everything as per instrsuctions:

    1. Uploaded files into public_html directory
    2. Set up database
    3. then when i enter in all the details after going to my domain and hit enter i get this message:

Sorry, the file .htaccess already exists. Please delete it and reload this page.

so i check to make sure this file is not there
the only htaccess file i had was : = htaccess.dist

i delete it , reload the page
and i still get the same error message????

did a detailed scan to make sure there wasn't a htaccess file somewhere in public_html, but could find none.

at a lost what i should be doing?

    hope someone can help!

    thanks!

    Derrick

Check the public_html directory carefully, if it does not exist, ask your host if they hide the .htaccess file.

It's a hidden file by default. In your ftp, there shoudl be an option somewhere to show hidden files.

I have face the same problem. After fill the initial form and click next, i get blank display saying "Sorry, the file .htaccess already exists. Please delete it and reload this page."

I tried to delete .htaccess from CPANEL interface and FILEZILLA FTP but after I've deleted, when I will out the form, .htaccess file generate itself on the server.

make sure you stay out of cpanel and delete it via filezilla. then immediately go to Mu's install screen.

as soon as you go to cpanel, it will regenerate its own htaccess, that's why you can't do it that way.

If you make fireftp, you can go to Tools then Options, check Show hidden files.
after that you can see .htaccess file in public_html directory.
