Hi guys, I have a few questions about Wordpress MU hope you can help me out:
a) Can my users connect outside domains to their Wordpress MU Blogs - I heard about Domainmapper - how does it work?
b) Is there a solution for my users to setup an e-mail account once they have their domain connected for example blogname@theirdomain.com
c) Can I have a seperate theme for the main MU blog and a seperate theme for all the other blogs without giving them the possibility to change the theme?
c. Yes, you can have a separate theme for the main blog. Just enable the special theme (in site admin - themes), set it for the main blog, and then disable it again. If you just have one other theme for the rest of the blogs, then they can't change it.
A & B are yeses, too - but I'll leave the explanation to someone that's more in tune with the domain mapping stuff.
a) the domain mapping plugin for MU works much the same like getting your own domain for your wordpress.com blog.
It requires work on your end for the initial setup and a lot of it depends on your server.
b) doable, but requires manual work on your end to set it up for each client. And it;s entriely due to your server and nothing to to with MU. :)
