Permission denied downloading theme to localhost (3 posts)

    Good evening. I think my issue might be due to my fundamental misunderstanding of....something.

    I have been trying to download a theme to "play with" locally. I get xampp started (using Linux), bring up the Wordpress admin page, choose my theme, etc.

    I fill in my connection information and get the following error:

    Warning: ftp_mkdir() [function.ftp-mkdir]: /wordpress/wp-content/upgrade: Permission denied in /opt/lampp/htdocs/wordpress/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-ftpext.php on line 246

    Could not create directory /wordpress/wp-content/upgrade

    What part of what I am running needs the permission to create that directory? Apache, ProFTPD... ? I'm not sure where to start so that I can change permissions on this one... ?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

    I believe it's apache that would need that permission.

    Or you could just go create that directory.
