I had an install of mu working that I was trialing, but had it with the subdomain set up and have decided I want subdirectory, so I deleted all files from my hosting account and started from scratch with the set up process, using the current version of mu downloaded today.

new files unzipped and uploaded, then ran index.php fine, so the homepage is now the default wordpress template with blog name etc. However, when trying to get to site admin etc the browser throws up an error message

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete
    * This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
    cookies.

I've not manually changed any settings prior or since install.

I got one set up before, what have I missed this time?!

Did you use a fresh new database? Or is it connecting to the old one?

I just deleted the old db's and set up a new one, and it's doing the same.

the url after the domain is wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2FDOMAIN.COM%2Fwp-admin%2F

Can't say that I noticed it doing that on the previous set up I had.

    on wp-config.php I've changed

    define('VHOST', 'no');
    to
    define('VHOST', 'yes');

It's got me round the redirect problem, but as I'm a novice to all this, is it setting that should be changed or are there implications?!

Ah it seems that this means I have to have subdomains?

I changed the vhost back to no, while still in the dashboard and it allowed me to create a subdirectory blog, but after logging out I can't log back in due to the re-directs problem.

As in the first instance of following the instructions, I can only assume the issue is with my shared hosting? having read through other posts I thought it was hard to get subdomain set up, not visa-versa.

Did you clear your browser cache?

I hadn't but the process has worked today, that must have been the problem. thanks!

as an aside, do you perhaps offer a paid service where you would check over a site prior to launch and advise on the set up optimization and security etc ?

    Hi,

    I have a similar problem.

Since I had a Single Blog witha few posts I decided to move to MU version starting everything from Scratch.

I made a backup of the few posts
I deleted all the files in my server
    I deleted the data base.
I created a new data Base
I installed and received a welcome email. I logged in into the dashboard, created a page, a post, accept plugings and themes. Everything is fine,

However, there is nothing in the side of the user. Whe typing http://www.severus.es I get the endless problem loading page:

    The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
    * This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

It happens also in IE. I deleted the caché of the browser, but nothing changed.

    Hi Andrea,

Sorry, what do you means with MU strips out the www?

If I type http://www.severus.es or http://severus.es the results are the same: endless redirect.

But now that you say so, I was giving www. in front and the system was taking it out. Should I do it again from scratch without http://www.?

    Hi,

I have repeated the process again from scratch, but no waz it does not work. I have a back end working perfect, but nothing is seeing at the users side.

http://severus.es is just in an endless redirection
