WordPress MU

Situation = Existing large-ish standalone WP site with an out-of-control post categories / sub-categories list. It's an ideal candidate for moving to a WPMU site with the existing top level categories each becoming a child blog, and then the sub-categories each nudging up one level to become the top level categories in their respective child-blogs.

Question - how can it be done without loads of copy-paste from the main blog to the child blogs, re-uploading images etc.

Has anyone tried it or done it yet?

Then, if each category has a manageable number of posts, just use the internal Export/import function and this plugin:

Put the plugin on the original blog you want to move in MU. Export ut each category, it shoudl bring the child cats with it.

Set up new blogs in MU.

Visit the backend of each blog and Import each category file we exported above.
