I'm building a social network using BuddyPress and what I want to do is use wordpress themes for the blogs inside the community. Like some of the website themes and ecommerce themes. Does anyone know if that will work?

That's pretty much exactly how it works our of the box.
The BuddyPress theme is used only on the blog for the main BP areas.
