WordPress MU

Dear WPMU Elite,

I come to you all in my time of need.

Previously, I have only designed my gaming community's website with a normal WordPress installation. However, I want to now offer more functionality with my upcoming redesign and with that, change to WPMU.

I have no need for the "community" feel WPMU gives with it's default installation. Instead, all I really need is a system that supports multiple blogs. For example:

1.) Front page blog for general news and site updates.
2.) A blog for podcast show note postings.
3.) A blog for each "division" of the community. (A division is created for each major game we play.)

Currently, I would need a total of 1 "main blog" and about 5-7 "other" blogs.

I will be using SimplePress Forum plug-in for the site's forum system and utilizing 1 theme for the entire site.

Is all of this possible with WPMU and if so, where do I begin to get a better idea on WPMU from a WP themers perspective?
