I have been looking for a while now for a solution to the following problem so apologies if this has already been answered somewhere.

I want to be able to have the option for new subscribers to either
    a) register a new blog and user account or
    b) just a user account

I am trying to use wpmu in conjunction with S2Members plugin but the options for new user registration seem to miss one obvious option which is a combination of 'user accounts may be registered' and 'logged in users can register new sites' so in effect a new user must create a new subscriber account first then be able to create a blog one logged in.

Is there a plugin or anything I can do to provide different registration screens for different subscriber types?

this is built in by default. The membership plugin may be hiding this, as I'm not sure how well it works with MU.

But. As a new user signing up, by default, if you go to yoursite.com/wp-signup.php, you get the choice of just a username, or a blog too.

If you want to froce them to sign up as a user first and *then* they can get a blog, try this:

That could work for what I want to set-up. Thank you for a very quick response. much appreciated.

...installed and tested and works really well.

I can now allow a number of different subscriber levels to join the main site with a new user account only.

Depending on which level they join as I am now in a position to restrict pages, posts, URI's etc (using S2Members level set-up options). This effectively means I can restrict the creation of new blog sites to new users of a specific level. I have also restricted the number of new blog sites that can be created by each user.

It's taken a while to get to this point but I am very pleased with the working solution.

It would be nice to have a module that takes care of all of this and I believe that the developers of S2Members plugin are looking at a multisite version.

    anyway, thanks again

Well, if you're already using it with a network running, half the dev work is done. ;)
