I have found some articles on this subject. And I tried some of them. But I found that they were not exactly what I want. Plus there had been a lot of cookie issue as I remembered. So I am starting a new thread here.
I want to do following in terms of login procedures:
1. I want something just like http://wordpress.com/. Display user ID and passward text boxes on the home page.
2. If incorrect info is entered, display error page. Again just like what is on http://wordpress.com/
3. Now, if the user logged in successfully, I'd like to keep him on the home page instead of going straight to his blog site.
4. At this moment, the home page displays the name of this user (like "Welcome John Smith"). Give him three options: a). Stay on the home page and use other features on the page. B). Click a link to go to his own blogs site. C). A Logout button.
Any advise?
Thanks in advance.

this is a plugin that would fix your needs... at least for the way it works... may need some tweaks but you can ask the coder.. :)
Thanks for the reply. But it's not what I want. Hope I can get more ideas.
Andrea,
Where to get and how to install this plug-in? I am new to plug-in and widgets.
Thanks a lot. I can't wait to try it.
Right-click on the link above and save it to your computer.
Rename it to .php.
Then, after you install widgets on your system (that's the link to download and install), put this plugin (upload it) in with your other widgets.
Make sure you use a widget-enabled theme to test it. :)
Andrea,
Thanks a lot. I will try this tonight. One concern is that I had modified my home page a lot though it was originated from a theme. Will it still work with your widget?
Thanks
If your theme is widgetized, it should. If you need help widgetizing it, let me know. (and I'll need a link, possibly a file..)
