the /home theme is the same as the /default theme, with the difference that it contain a home.php file...
home.php is a file that is automatically replacing the default index file where the blog is displayed... this home.php file contained in the /home theme will display your login page for the system...

Just for reference, /home is a copy of the /default theme. I would hate to think that someone thinks it's a redirection or something to the /default subdirectory. :)
/home is the name of the main blog's theme. the home.php file is what is displayed when a visitor lands on the blog in place of the index.html page.
