I thought I would mention that I have fixed the following problems with this tagging hack:

1) allowing only posts from public blogs into the database

2) categories with apostrophes or commas in the title are now correctly entered into the database

ok, so i get the tag cloud and i see the info in my DB... but the links dont work. they dont make it off the front page. what did i do wrong? any guesses?

Actually, this method for implementation is kinda out dated, and rather resource intensive on sites that have much depth to them.

Grab a search for "sitewide tags", and there's a thread about needing a solution or something. It's a much better option, and less intensive. There's another option as well, something about the easy way, but that is rather intensive as well. Although, at some point they are going to be working on that aspect.
