We have taken Wordpress MU, and connected it to our real estate listing database. You can create a wordpress blog in 2 clicks. We take the street name to create the subdomain for the listings and automatically add pages during install. We add about me, featured listings, contact forms, etc... So in 2 clicks you have a full property website with blogging so you can tell the public about open houses, and the neighborhood. You can also make it private for only communication between the agents and the homeowners.

I especially like how you were able to add an about me and contact form on the site. Is this managed by allowing a user to upload their picture through their profile page? I am looking for an option where we can have our users upload their picture.

Yes, I had to hack the sign-up page to connect the blog username to the realivent username...Then we can connect the blog to the realivent username.

We add pre-made pages to the blog theme so the user can just choose the page template for their about me page and it will display their full profile form our account page...so they do not have to create an about me page for every blog they make.

once you can connect a blog to a user on your account page you can pull any data from your account page.

But, if you just want to allow people to upload a pictures, I think wordpress mu already supports this?
Each image they upload in the admin section goes to the blogs.dir folder and manages the images for the users?

    will this work?

What i'm really looking for is a way of integrating some sort of an upload feature where people can upload their photo and save it as their avatar for use when they blog throughout the site. I like gravatars and comvatars but have had such bad luck trying to get them to work. I keep getting really tiny icons on the sites and I want big icons that are set by the user when they go to their profile page. Kind of like on Wordpress.com.

Do you know what I'm talking about unomateo?

You'll probably have to edit themes and stuff in the backend to make those tiny icons bigger. It's not the plugin that makes them that way.

    well actually andrea, it is.

In the comvatars plugin page you can set the default pixel size from anything as low as 16 to as high as....well I haven't tested to see how high it can go.

For whatever reason, i just dislike comvatars. Maybe I should customize the pack that comes with it.

Besides that, I always get this error when trying to update my own comvatar:

Cannot redeclare class comvatarmanager in /home/...../public_html/wp-content/mu-plugins/comvatars.php on line 60
