Please assume that you are the one looking at your file structure and tell us what you see.

All I see is a folder for my website. Originally the ftp was blank, with no public_html folder or anything. I was just blank and all that's been added is a folder for my main website.

I placed a fresh copy of the install files at the top level directory, without putting them in a wpmu folder. I went to http://www.myurl.com/index.php and it ran the wordpress config screen. I set all those options up and I was told it was successful. But when I try to access any blogs aside from the admins I get 404 errors, also the same thing with activation emails.

What is the proper way to install it so that my urls will be:

    http://www.myurl.com/userblog1

    INSTEAD OF:

    http://www.myurl.com/wpmu/userblog1

But I can't because I already have an index.php there. Can I copy the contents of both index files into one? Is there another way to install to root?

I'd nuke it all clean, clear your db, re-upload Mu 1.0 to the root and reinstall subdomains. If you've got your own stuff in the current index.php then keep a copy handy and build it into the home theme once Mu is up and running.

I use godaddy too. I got the same message. My problem was using sub domains. I switched it to sub directories and it worked fine. You will need to clear out the database when you reinstall. Godaddy doesn't support sub domains unless you have dedicated server. Hope that helps.

I looked at it myself, It's an install in a subdirectory. Even working off a subdir install, it's a no-go. Installs fine, just can't create new blogs.

    Hello,

Does the installation at the root is compulsory ?
I've installed it in a subdirectory, and I have a vhost that redirects to http://blog.enseignons.be
My blogs have this kind of url http://blog.enseignons.be/myblog
