I don't want to stop people from being able to sign up, I just want to be notified of the new blog and be given the opportunity to approve them.

I thought I saw a topic on this here, but I can't seem to find it. I got a rash of splogs recently and rather than having to delete them, I want to screen them first.

Also, it appears someone was able to use a take user name to make a post on one of these blogs. Any ideas how that happened or how to stop it?

As always, thanks in advance for any and all help.

Also, this looks like some kind of automated posting with just random strings. Anyway to stop this sort of thing, or do you just delete the blog as garbage?

Yup, that's a spam blog. Probably an import actually.

I gotta admit that I'm just deleteing the emails that I get know. I just go in once a day to Dashboard -> Site Admin -> Blogs and sort them by Update date and run through them. If you're using a tabbed browser, just open up the view links for each blog into a new tab. Takes about three minutes for me.

Captcha + Bad Behavior will stop the bots.

Nothing will stop an idiot spammer sitting there and actually registering, logging in, and posting their crap.

For the latter, I hacked up the function that pings sites, and set it to only ping (like ping pingomatic, technorati, whatever) if the post id was 5 or more.

Then when the a-holes do get through, nobody knows about it before I can delete it.
